Why is the answer “no” to the judge’s question considered good from the point of view of DOJ? It only suggests that they are taking the behavior of their competitors to be “given”, something assumed under perfect competition.

Regarding auctions there are a zillion types and accepting the second highest bid is common when bids are sealed.

Has any witness been asked whether those buying ads from google also buy ads from other search engines and how much they pay relative to what they pay google? The

Another fascinating article, Yusef. I thought your description of a typical auction was actually apt, because if I understood correctly the entire auction process seems to take place within Google itself, as a closed loop, with Google accepting internal "bids" only, thus competing only with itself. Due to various external factors which you've described in previous posts, default settings, etc., it seems their rivals can hardly break into the "loop."
